A roadmap, not a fake checklist of hidden thresholds
Next Reign: Kingdom keeps revealing systems for roughly 20 hours of progression, and the current release has more than a dozen interconnected systems. That makes “what do I do next?” a real problem — but it also makes made-up unlock tables dangerous.
This roadmap deliberately describes problem order, not unsupported exact thresholds. When the game gives you a specific quest, Prestige Preview requirement or building tooltip, that current in-game requirement wins.
Stage 1 — stabilize basic production
Your first goal is not maximum output. It is making sure wood, food, stone/ore and worker capacity are healthy enough to buy the next unlock without one resource sitting at zero.
Priorities:
- enough houses to avoid a worker-cap stall;
- a warehouse plan before a required resource exceeds storage;
- trading routes so quests become another progression lever;
- bookmarks for expensive targets.
If you are still manually watching one bar for minutes, you probably need to improve the upstream economy rather than wait.
Stage 2 — make the first crafting chain self-sustaining
Smelting and tools teach the core loop: raw resources → crafted intermediate → higher-tier upgrade. Multiple crafting buildings can improve productivity, and the game later adds more automation.
Use the crafting and production-chain guide when a crafted resource looks “too slow.” Most stalls are an input, queue or capacity problem.
Stage 3 — Prestige to turn manual progress into repeatable progress
Prestige is the bridge from “I can reach this” to “I can reach this quickly every run.” Permanent upgrades include starting resources/workers, storage-related boosts, quest improvements, production improvements and automation options shown in current gameplay.
The first reset should make the next run visibly shorter. From then on, compare the time to the next Prestige point with the permanent acceleration you could buy immediately.
Stage 4 — build a real army, not a pile of units
Combat grows from simple auto-battles into formation decisions and specialized unit types. Full-release footage shows multiple formations being assigned to different encounters, while the official store page confirms five distinct unit types with tiers and synergies.
At this point, separate economy questions from battle questions:
- Economy: Can you afford replacement/upgraded units and their upgrades?
- Formation: Are durable units protecting ranged damage?
- Target: Are you farming a safe encounter when the next one is inefficient?
For current tactics without pretending there is one universal composition, use combat formations.
Stage 5 — manage larger currencies and research caps
Later systems introduce larger pools such as Glory, Favor and Knowledge. The first post-launch patches changed their maximum storage dramatically. In v1.0.3, endgame caps were raised to 1,000,000 for regular resources, 1,000,000 for Glory/Favor and 500,000 total Knowledge.
That patch matters because old launch footage can make later upgrades look impossible simply due to obsolete caps.
Stage 6 — the gold wall is now softer
Gold Ore and Gold Bars were identified by the developer as an overly grindy midgame stopper. v1.0.6 increased Gold Ore from golems and earlier combat quests, added Gold Ore to two named quests, cut Gold Bar crafting cost, and reduced several Master Worker / Tier 3 requirements.
If a video tells you the gold section is brutally slow, check its date. The v1.0.6 gold guide reflects the September 6 rebalance.
Stage 7 — castle and endgame capacity
The v1.0.3 storage patch raised castle storage upgrades by +100,000 and greatly increased endgame currency caps. v1.0.6 then reduced the Prosperity requirement for Build Castle by roughly half.
That combination means the final stretch is materially different from launch-day runs. Follow current costs in-game, not an old screenshot.
Still stuck on “what unlocks this?”
Some late Prestige Preview items and Grandmaster/Relic questions are currently being asked by players without a reliable answer. Those thresholds are still unconfirmed, so they are not listed as requirements here.
Check the open questions on this site: when a hidden threshold is not in current official notes or consistent current-game evidence, it is left unclaimed.
